Ships Dedicated Handling

Costamare Maritime Training Centre introduces the newly launched three-day course “SHIP’S DEDICATED HANDLING “, specifically designed for Captains and Management level Officers. The course, which is delivered at CMTS premises, aims at conveying the required specific knowledge to enable candidates to serve on ships and perform the specific duties and responsibilities of ship’s handling and maneuvering and it is supported by our fully equipped state –of –the- art Bridge Simulator.

The course covers,

Maneuvering and ship handling theories:

 

  • forces affecting the ship.
  • pivot point / ship’s maneuvering.
  • use of main engine in maneuvers 
  • use of “kick ahead” in order to keep vessel’s course.
  • pressure zones.
  • tactical diameter.
  • wheel over points.
  • inertia stop.
  • effect of draught on turning.
  • lateral resistance
  • propellers / rudders types.
  • bank effect.
  • use of anchors in case of emergency.
  • interaction between ships(narrow channels).
  • anchor types and characteristics/safe anchoring.
  • interaction between overtaking ships.
  • shallow water effect.
  • squat.
  • current and tidal forces.
  • how a ship will behave in the wind.

 

Simulator exercises:

  • berthing and un-berthing tanker vessels (VLCC, Aframax, MR).
  • berthing un-berthing with or without current,
  • mooring at an SPM / FPSO with or without waves and current,
  • anchoring.
  • ship to ship operations.
  • transit of narrow channels (Singapore, Bosporus etc).
  • use of both anchors for mooring.
  • navigation in dense fog
  • navigation in shallow waters
