Leadership and Team-Working Course

CMTS S.A. proudly introduces the “Leadership and Team-working” IMO Model Course 1.39.

The Course is mandatory as per STCW Table A-II/2 (2010 Manila Amendments) and has been endorsed by the Administrations of Malta, Liberia and the Marshall Islands.

This Management-Level Course is addressed mainly to masters, chief engineers, engine and deck officers and office personnel.

The Course includes theory and indicative exercises, which are supported by our fully equipped state-of-the-art Bridge Simulator and aims at conveying the required specific knowledge and skills that will qualify participants to effectively execute:

  • Planning and coordination
  • Prioritization
  • Management (leadership) styles
  • Effective communication on board and ashore
  • Situation and risk assessment

The duration is three days and it is delivered entirely on CMTS premises, by experienced Instructors while its training material contains:

  1. Organization of crew, authority structure, responsibilities
  2. Cultural awareness, inherent traits, attitudes, behavior, cross - cultural communication
  3. Shipboard situation, informal social structures on board
  4. Human error, situation awareness, automation awareness, complacency, boredom
  5. Leadership and team-working
  6. Training, structured shipboard training programs
  7. International maritime conventions – SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC,– role of IMO, ILO
  8. Recommendations and national legislation
  9. Personnel assignment
  10. Human limitations
  11. Personal abilities
  12. Time and resource constraints
  13. Decision making and problem solving techniques
  14. Emergencies and crowd management 

Simulated exercises include realistic virtual scenarios covering the areas of:

  1. Human error
  2. Obtaining and maintaining situational awareness
  3. Risk assessment
  4. Engine or steering failure
  5. Collision, stranding/grounding
  6. Leadership and team-working
  7. Coordination
