ECDIS as Primary Means of Navigation

The newly launched one-day seminar “ ECDIS AS PRIMARY MEANS OF NAVIGATION – REQUIREMENTS AND OBLIGATIONS “ , specifically designed to meet the needs of the shore-based personnel of a maritime company, is now delivered either at CMTS or at customers’ premises and aims to convey the specific knowledge required to facilitate the transition from the traditional navigation to a paperless environment (ECDIS).

The seminar covers topics such as: 

1. New amendments to SOLAS (Chapter V regulations 2, 19 & 27)

2. Legislating requirements for ECDIS training (IMO Model course 1.27)

3. IMO requirements about ECDIS A817(19) and MSC 232(82) 

4. IHO chart data transfer standard S-57 & Colors and symbols Specifications  for ECDIS IHO S-52 

5. ECDIS back-up system requirements

6. VECTOR and RASTER charts (RNC-ENC-SENC)

7. Crew’s needs and certification concerning ECDIS

8. ECDIS maintenance according to the latest applicable international IHO standards.

9. Electronic Charts (ENC) management

10. Integration of ECDIS with existing electronic system.

11. Company’s Responsibilities ( new ISM amendments and policy which are modified on the basis of the ECDIS needs)

12. Port State Control and Vetting Inspections focused on ECDIS 

 (- The appropriate declaration on Form E and P, -ECDIS type approval certificate,
- Adequate independent back-up arrangements,
- Documentary evidence of generic and type specific ECDIS training,
- Evidence of periodic tests and checks of the ECDIS equipment,
- Demonstration of operational competency by the vessel’s navigating officers)
